Getting Started

The following describes the process for initiating therapy:

1. Initial Contact

Call (607) 777-6315 to discuss whether Dr. Johnson's services would be appropriate for your situation.

2. Schedule Intake

If appropriate, schedule an intake appointment. Sessions are available Thursdays only. Scheduling is available via Doxy.me.

3. Intake Forms

Complete intake forms prior to your first session. These gather information about your background, relationship history, current concerns, and mental health history.

4. First Three Sessions

Session 1 (Assessment): 50-minute joint session with both partners. Discussion of relationship concerns, relevant history, and current dynamics. Dr. Johnson gathers information necessary for assessment.

Session 2 (Individual Meetings): 25-minute individual session with each partner. This allows each person to discuss their perspective, concerns, and goals privately.

Session 3 (Feedback): 50-minute joint session. Dr. Johnson provides feedback on relationship functioning and outlines a path forward, including treatment recommendations and expectations.

5. Ongoing Treatment

If you decide to continue, a regular therapy schedule is established. Frequency is typically weekly, though this can be adjusted based on needs and availability.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellation or rescheduling requires at least 24 hours notice. Cancellations with less than 24 hours notice will be charged half the session fee ($250).

Confidentiality

Information disclosed in therapy is confidential and protected by law (therapist-client privilege). Exceptions include situations involving imminent danger, child abuse, or court orders. These limits will be discussed during intake.
